Module content
Lectures:

Description of the technical information transfer as an essential component of machine design, manufacturing and operation stages. Description of the basic concepts related to Computer Aided systems (CAx). Classification and examples of available design and simulation tools. Description of the capabilities and structure of advanced CAD systems. Basic and specialized software modules Solid and surface 3D modeling. Modeling of parts and assemblies. Drafting and preparation of technical documentation. Introduction to virtual testing – strength and kinematics.

Laboratory classes:

Individual and team work in preparation of 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies with increasing level of complexity. The use of solid and surface 3D modeling. Gathering experience in use of appropriate software tools for modeling specific geometrical features. Use and modification of materials and standard parts databases. Drafting and preparation of 2D documentation based on a 3D model. Basic strength and kinematic analyses of parts and assemblies.

Method of calculating the final grade:

1. There will be few practical tests during the course of the semester verifying the individual practical competences in CAD modeling.
2. The final grade will be calculated as a arithmetic mean of partial marks from tests .
